| TGS participates in German Red
Cross vehicle seminar - 2001 |
| At the end of March, the
German Red Cross conducted a training seminar with different
national societies of the International Red Cross & Crescent
movement near Mönchengladbach in Germany. During this
3 day training event, TGS was present with 2 vehicles
and 4 off-road driving instructors. |
| The training was focussed on
vehicle familiarisation and started with a technical explanation
by TGS Workshop Manager Gary Summers concentrating on
the Land Cruiser Hardtop and Land Cruiser Pickup, both
models used extensively by the Red Cross movement. After
this we were able to test the vehicles in the most rigorous
of off-road conditions, namely the open-cast coal mining
area called "Gatzweiler 1" operated by Rheinbraun close
to the training centre. |
| All participants in the
training were impressed with the performance of these
two Toyota models and their ability to cope with even
the toughest off-road conditions and terrains. |
| During this three day course, a total of
53 people participated, consisting of members of the Austrian,
Swedish, Spanish and German Red Cross, as well as members
of different International NGOs such as ADRA, Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation,
Johanniter International, Transfer, MSF Belgium, Menschen
gegen Minen, Deutscher Caritasverband and various members
of the German Red Cross. Our thanks to the German Red
Cross for allowing us to partner them in this event. We
hope to be able to take part in similar training exercises
in the future. |
