REGENT RURAL PRIMARY SCHOOL
regent rural primary school

In 2004, TGS Workshop Manager Gary Summers took a group of trainees to Sierra Leone for a series of 4x4 training courses, where they helped with the Margay Blind School, which is funded by TGS. In 2006, Gary returned this time with Sales Manager Jimmy Bruzon on his team. Jimmy noticed a school beside the training grounds and went over to look around and introduce the TGS team.

As with so many schools in Africa, the Regent Rural Primary School was in need of many items, some as basic as stationary. Upon his return to Gibraltar Jimmy purchased stationery after obtaining donations from two local stationery companies. A raffle was also developed in order to raise more money for the cause.

These goods were packed up and made ready to be shipped to Freetown and in 2007. An NGO was approached and they agreed to take the goods for TGS in a vehicle they were having delivered to Freetown. Upon arrival, they kindly delivered the goods to the school and took photos of the hand over.

The headmaster, Sylvester Leigh, had discussed with Jimmy all hardships the school endures, and he mentioned a few of the items they could really use to improve the conditions for the running of the school. Among the items mentioned were a computer and good durable plastic cutlery as the school is a feeding point for the children in the area. So far the items collected and sent over include the following:

• PC and scanner
• Printer (not yet sent but waiting to go)
• Tel/Fax machine
• 37” TV/DVD
• Petrol Generator
• Microwave

Some of these goods mentioned are being delivered shortly - once again by the same organisation that helped previously. More photos will be taken and documented.

There is still more collecting to be done to cover the cost of purchased items. Should this sum be exceeded, more goods will be purchased, such as sports equipment, school books (a donation of these has already been made) and the ongoing requirement of stationery for the children.
