TGS Visits Haiti

TGS sent a team to Haiti on a fact-finding mission after its response to NGO’s and UN agencies' urgent requirement for vehicles in the immediate aftermath of the devastating earthquake which hit the already impoverished country on the 12th January this year. The team's aim was to identify how the vehicles supplied were coping with the agencies' response, as well as identifying how TGS could provide further assistance to their immediate transport needs.

The team found a devastated country with a population trying hard to get back on its feet with much of the coordination coming from a large number of international agencies, many of which had a presence in the country since before the earthquake, and which suffered considerably as a result of the disaster.

The team toured parts of the capital, including the port area which was remarkably restored to some sort of order only weeks after its cranes had fallen into the sea and its quayside destroyed. There was devastation throughout and the task of rebuilding the country is indeed a daunting one.
