“Gulf (G.C.C.) Specification”, “European Specification”, “Australian Specification” & “General Specification” - these are but a few of the various specification types available for all Toyota models. Unsurprisingly, it is not always easy for a prospective customer to decide which specification type best suits his needs. Conveniently, TGS only stocks General Specification models, given that they are best suited for use in developing countries. This policy guarantees your peace of mind in terms of vehicle reliability/performance and after sales servicing.
By choosing a General Specification vehicle from TGS, our clients can be sure that only vehicles approved by Toyota Motor Corporation are imported into the various project countries. This approval is crucial when it comes to after-sales servicing and maintenance of the vehicle. Throughout Africa and other regions where General Specification models are recommended, this specification is fully supported by the local distributor networks, meaning that compatible spare parts and full (official) warranty are always available. Having the wrong vehicle specification, could lead to a lack of spare parts and insufficient warranty cover, if any. Please note that Full Toyota Warranty can only be obtained via purchases made through an authorised Local Toyota Dealer or TGS.
From a practical point of view, a General Specification vehicle will be equipped with the necessary rough use package, in order to cope with the extreme conditions it may be required to operate in. The rough use package includes specialised features, such as reinforced suspensions, fuel sedimenters with fuel filters, raised air intakes (snorkel), high altitude compensators, transfer box protectors, etc. Needless to say, not having the correct specification could considerably impair performance.
By supplying General specification models, TGS can guarantee the legal importation of our vehicles into your country of operation, as it will comply with the required standards. Moreover, TGS can further endorse this compliance with officially issued Certificates of Conformity and/or Origin. Vehicles purchased from unofficial sources do not enjoy such endorsements.
So, how can you be sure if you are purchasing a General Specification vehicle?
As mentioned above, ALL TGS models conform to this specification, but should you ever be in doubt there is one very simple way of identifying a General Specification model: the Model Code.
For instance, the following model code is a Gulf Specification code for the Land Cruiser 200 series:
VDJ200L-GNTNZV (the final “V” denotes the Gulf Specification)
A TGS General Specification model would be: VDJ200L-GNTNZ
As a general rule, the second part of Toyota Model codes comprises 6 letters (sometimes suffixed with a numerical digit), with the last letter denoting the geographical specification (e.g: “W” denotes Europe and “Q” denotes Australia). On TGS’s General Specification models the second part of the model code only contains 5* letters.
Our aim is to work in long-term partnership with our client organisations, and it is with this in mind that we endeavour to provide the most suitable and reliable vehicles, fully endorsed by our principals at Toyota Motor Corporation.
* With the exception of our Hilux model codes, which contain an extra “N” to denote availability throughout most of the African continent. |
